Music Comes from Life, the Source of All Creations

Traditional and fine arts present unique challenges to artists who, beyond popular culture, have chosen a path less travelled in their quest for musical perfection.

Taiwan is blessed to be a land that nurtures outstanding artists with high caliber and genuine passion for their work. Over the years, the National Center for Traditional Arts (NCTA) has endeavored to create a climate for growth for artists and established international platforms by mobilizing resources from the public sector. In so doing, the NCTA has contributed to cross-cultural dialogues and exchanges between musicians from home and abroad.

The 1st Taiwan International Music Festival (TIMF) will feature a rich diversity of musical genres and performers. In its first visit to Taiwan, Miyeon & Park from South Korea will showcase the multifaceted dimensions of traditional Korean percussion music. Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin, a renowned ensemble in Europe, will breathe new life into works by young Taiwanese composers. Meanwhile, the TIMF seeks to serve as a platform for outstanding local musicians to expose their talent to international audiences. This is why the TIMF has also invited winners and nominees of last year’s Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music to be part of the performances this year. In addition to concerts, the TIMF will also feature workshops where young composers and members of Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin guide emerging composers to refine their skills. The speakers of the workshops, at the same time, will have the opportunity to know more about Taiwanese composers and musicians. Last but not least, the series of lectures provided this year aims to broaden the horizons of workers in the traditional arts and music industry, with international experts sharing their insights on international markets and team management.

The TIMF sees traditions as the foundation where music takes fly. With professional planning and exquisite content, the National Center for Traditional Arts hopes to connect audiences with traditional arts and spread happiness through music at this year’s TIMF.
