Miyeon & Park

 

The members of this talented duo are widely regarded as pioneers in the Free Music and traditional Korean music.

 

They are undoubtedly under the influence of free jazz.  It can be said that on the South Korea’s music scene they are the pioneers of free improvisation. Both Miyeon, who plays the piano, and the drummer Park have received academic musical education in the fields of contemporary music and composition. They also studied the musical culture of their country, in particular the shamanic, Pansori and Samulnori music. Combining the aforementioned musical worlds with contemporary jazz, they create a unique style. They play their innovative music not only in their country.  They tour successfully all over the world.

 

The duo was awarded many national prizes. They received the Korean Music Awards for the best crossover album and for the best instrumental music album, while in a poll conducted by the “Jazz People” magazine the duo’s recordings were in the top 10 of the Korean 21st century jazz.

Dickson Dee

 

Dickson Dee (Li Chin Sung) has been engaged in the music industry for more than 25 years. His career started from importing European independent labels to Hong Kong, China and Taiwan; followed by establishing his own music label Noise Asia, organizing concerts etc. His experience includes distribution, import/export, creation, publishing, promotion, artist management and other kinds of works in the industry. He has made a great contribution to the development of independent music in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan.

 

In 1996, Dickson’s debut solo album “PAST” was released under Tzadik label (USA). Since then, he began to set foot on the creation field with musical styles ranging from avantgarde to experimental, music concrete, electronic, new classical, industrial noise, dance, electronic world jazz etc. He has performed under different names and formed several bands. For example, DJ Dee for electronic experimental music, Li Chin Sung for music concrete and avantgarde, PNF for industrial noise, Khoomi Sound Machine for electronic world jazz, Dickson Dee for electronic acoustic,sampling cut ‘n’ paste and turntableist. Mars News Ensemble for mixed film,music, multimedia art project.

Choe, Hwiseon

 

She was born in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, China. She graduated from Children Palace of Yanji (Elementary School of Arts). Middle and High school attached to College of Art Yanbian University. After then she came over Korea, she continued her musical study at school of Korean Traditional Arts, Korean National University of Arts. Now, she has been studying course work the master's degree at same university. She received a Arirang award from 21C Korean Music Project in 2010 and Congeniality award from 6th Myriad Concert / Experimental Stage of Traditional in 2013. She also participated in 14th Seoul International Improvisational Dance Festival, 1st Next Improvise Wave and Korea 21century Music in New York. She has been working at The National Orchestra of Korea from 2012 to now.
